For this project, WordPlay explores the issue of housing. The local housing crisis impacts our communities at every level. Stories of home, belonging, and access to housing are prominent for students and their families. In our piece, artist Sharare Khosravani beautifully illustrates the complex relationship between people and their experiences with home, especially the imprints left behind when we are forced to leave. This box is inspired by student writings on HOME.

From the refugee experience to finding home in unlikely circumstances, this piece is sure to strike a chord of empathy around the human experience of belonging.

WordPlay Cincy‘s mission is to spark storytelling through writing, performing, and visual arts in collaboration with Cincinnati’s young people by celebrating their strengths, cultivating belonging, and fueling social impact. Our free creative youth development programs provide inclusive, inspiring opportunities to uncover and share personal narratives through exploration of the literary, performing, and visual arts. We believe that creativity catalyzes learning, young people are a vast resource of strength, and self-determination lies in being the authors of our own stories.
