Holiday Throwback: Hanukkah Music & Latkes in 1999
This classic features klezmer great Hankus Netsky, comedian Chasia Segal, and late great singer/actor Theodore Bikel
Published Nov 8, 2022
Travel back to 1999 with this Hanukkah special from GBH. Featuring over 150 musicians from different ensembles, this hour-long performance was recorded live at the New England Conservatory in Boston by GBH (formerly WGBH).
But really, we’re here for this moment, where Chasia Segal takes the stage to demonstrate how to cook potato latkes. Harriet (Chasia) Segal was a native Yiddish speaker who was also a beloved comedian, community leader, and co-host of a Yiddish radio show. She passed away in 2017, but through this classic Hanukkah show, we can remember her great legacy.
