Lloyd Schwartz is the Somerville poet laureate, Professor Laureate at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, and Pulitzer Prize winner for his work as classical music editor of the former Boston Phoenix. Lloyd says: “Yiddish was my first language. I’ve written poems about my Jewish family. My interest and music–in listening and writing about it–stems from my mother and her encouragement. My sense of humor could be described as Jewish. I think even my own conflicted attitudes about religion strike me as very Jewish.”
